JANE BROWN

Today I was studing my photography books and came across 2 books sent to me by my grandma. Jane Brown - the photographers name. And I think she is wonderfull.

She worked with using film cameras, which is a part of photography I have yet to explore. I've been brought up using digital, like the rest of this generation...

It was interesting looking through her photographs. She takes photos, just for the pure beauty of the photograph. I love that. They aren't to prove a point or send a message... she finds photos. Finds the beauty in life around us that we are blind to.
At the back of the book is an interview with Brown. Her response to 'What do you think about the state of photography now' made me smile. 'It was so lovely at the begining - exciting, revealing. Now we see too much, there are too many photographys, too many photographers chasing the same subject, and less chance to be original.'
She's spot on.
Theres something so magical about film which I have never discovered... but the thought of having a limit to the photos you can capture, the hand developing, the waiting to recive the shots... I think thats what photography is about. It's revealing and exciting, well it should be. It's just not the same feeling with digital. You can snap snap away, see your photos instantly, edit, change, crop, destroy a photo.. but then press undo and the error never existed. Sometimes I really wish I was born in the past... but thats another rant!

She's really inspired me. She's made me realise that if I want to make a change in photography and live my dream... I have to work hard. Starting now. There are too many people wanting to be in this buisness. Money money money. I need to go out and FIND the photos. You need the eye to be a photographer, look further than whats in front of you. I'm going to do it, need to stop talking about it and do it!
